Overview

Michael is located in Portland, Oregon and is a member of the Vorys tax and real estate groups.  He has more than 20 years of experience assisting real estate and business clients on a wide range of matters throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Michael handles a wide range of transactional and litigation matters for his business and real estate clients.  In many cases, he is seen by clients as their outside general counsel. 

Michael also counsels clients on real property tax valuation and exemptions.  As a former commercial real estate appraiser, he helps clients obtain excellent results in their valuation disputes.  Michael provides strategic tax advice to commercial, multifamily, energy, communication and transportation clients.  Michael has successfully represented clients before numerous state and local tax appeal boards in the Northwest and at trial to the Oregon Tax Court.

Michael regularly writes and speaks on real estate and tax related legal matters.  He most recently spoke at IPT’s 46th Annual Conference Property in Salt Lake City.

Michael is a member of the Oregon State Bar Association.  He serves on the association’s LAWS Committee, which follows and advises the Bar about upcoming state tax legislation.  Michael is also an Oregon State Bar Fee Dispute Resolution Arbitrator.

Michael received his B.A. from Willamette University and his J.D. from Lewis & Clark Law School.
