How Judges Sentence Without a Sentencing Database

Michael Donnelly, of counsel in the Vorys Cleveland office and former justice of The Supreme Court of Ohio, participated in a seminar titled "How Judges Sentence Without a Sentencing Database" on April 23 at the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association.

The seminar explored how a data-driven reform of Ohio’s criminal sentencing system will improve transparency, promote fairness and consistency, enhance efficiency and ultimately strengthen public confidence in the judiciary.  Michael was joined by Brian Mikelbank, an associate professor of urban studies at Cleveland State University as well as several staff writers for The Marshall Project of Cleveland, including Brittany Hailer, Doug Livingston and Mark Puente.
