Ohio’s New Law Combats Prescription Drug Abuse

Rosemary Welsh, of counsel in the firm’s Cincinnati office, authored an article for the March 2012 edition of the Cincinnati Bar Association’s CBA Report entitled “Ohio’s New Law Combats Prescription Drug Abuse.”  The article outlines the new controls that were passed into law by H.B. 93 in 2011.

According to the article, the legislation impacts both individual physicians and pain management clinics.  It also requires the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation and Ohio Medicaid managed care organizations to implement coordinated services programs for claimants that have obtained prescription drugs at a frequency or in an amount that is not medically necessary.
