Overview

Cheryl is a scientific advisor in the Vorys Washington, D.C. office and a member of the intellectual property (IP) group.

Prior to joining Vorys, Cheryl was a software engineer specializing in web development, where she designed and deployed web-based solutions. She also worked as a tech consultant to financial institutions, providing expert guidance on the integration and adaptation of technology solutions.

Cheryl’s academic and research background centered on artificial intelligence and machine learning, with a particular emphasis on algorithmic transparency in facial recognition systems. Her work included extensive analysis of neural networks and how they operate in high-stakes environments by critically examining issues such as bias, interpretability and the broader social implications of deploying AI technologies in order to enhance the understanding and accountability of these technologies.

Beyond her professional work, Cheryl is actively engaged in her community. She volunteers as an English teacher at an immigrant center, helping immigrants build language skills that support their integration, confidence and access to new opportunities.

In her personal time, Cheryl enjoys playing the flute, painting, Pilates and golfing.
