Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP, an AMLaw 200 law firm, announced today that it will open an office in California. The office will be the firm’s eighth office and expands the firm’s physical footprint from coast-to-coast.
“There are tremendous opportunities for firms, like Vorys, that have effectively navigated through this period of disruption related to COVID-19,” said Vorys Managing Partner Michael Martz. “In recent years, the number of clients that we have supported in California has grown significantly making this the right time for our firm to move forward in the Golden State.”
Tom McCormick, a partner in the firm’s litigation group, will re-locate to California to lead the office as its managing partner. Tom’s practice focuses on business litigation and California labor and employment matters.
“Our clients have repeatedly told us that our practical advice and focus on client service differentiates us from our competitors,” McCormick said. “With a physical presence in California, we will further enhance these services to clients that operate throughout the state.”
Vorys and its attorneys in the California office, which will be located in Orange County, will continue to provide business legal counsel to clients with California operations across several industries, including retail, banking, eCommerce and transportation and logistics, among several others. The Vorys’ labor and employment team has provided counseling to and defended California employers in complex wage-and-hour and discrimination litigation, which is expected to be an immediate area of concentration for the office.
Currently, eight Vorys attorneys are members of the State Bar of California, and others are navigating the admissions process.
Vorys was established in 1909 and has grown to be one of the largest law firms in the U.S. with nearly 375 attorneys across the firm’s offices in Ohio, Washington, D.C., Texas, Pennsylvania, and now California.
Additional information about the office, including the exact opening date, will be shared in the coming months.
