Lampley Featured in Cincinnati Enquirer Story Titled “From Mentee to Mentor”

Nathaniel Lampley, the managing partner of the Vorys Cincinnati office, was the focus of a Cincinnati Enquirer story titled “From Mentee to Mentor.”  The story focused on Lampley’s life goals and the relationship Lampley had with his mentor James Brown, an administrator at Lampley's school.

The story, which appeared in the June 3, 2012 edition of the paper, states:

"The Rotary Club had speaking contests, and Brown would help identify students who could write well and encourage them to enter. Lampley eventually became a cornerstone of the speaking program, Brown said.

'With (Nate’s) example, we were able to get young students from the inner city to be presented in an unbelievable setting. They were able to dispel the notion that maybe inner-city kids didn’t have the ability to compete. He became a great role model in the community,' Brown said.

Lampley says educators like Brown provided him with intellectual stimulation he couldn’t find elsewhere.

'I really got into school. I loved reading, I loved learning, I loved intellectual stimulation, and I spent a lot of time in the library after school,' he said. 'My dad did as much as he could, but it was nothing like the stimulus that I received when I was in school by key teachers and administrators who took an interest in me and told me that I could be somebody special if I worked hard, and I believed it.'

The story also highlighted Lampley’s volunteer efforts and his work as a mentor to high school students, stating:

"Lampley, who is married with two sons, says he also feels an obligation to make a difference away from the office.

'If I go to a high school and talk to a group of underprivileged kids, if I reach one of them, it will have been worth it,' he said. 'And I try to do that as often as I can because somebody did it for me. And I think we have an obligation to reach back and help in ways in which we were helped.'”
