J.B. Lind

A partner in Vorys’ Cincinnati office, J.B. represents businesses, financial institutions, and employers in disputes that affect their operations, finances, and important relationships.  He works with clients to understand what a successful outcome means for them, evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of their position, and make informed decisions about litigation.  That includes candid advice about the costs of pursuing a case, opportunities for settlement, and when to take a dispute to trial.

His practice includes commercial and construction litigation, banking disputes, workers’ compensation, data privacy and cybersecurity, and trade secret and intellectual property litigation.  He also handles business ownership and estate disputes, insurance and product liability cases, and property tax appeals.

J.B. fully embraces artificial intelligence, its tools, and the efficiencies they bring to his litigation practice.  He uses AI to help organize complex records, develop drafts, and prepare for hearings and trials, giving him more time to focus on strategy, analysis, and client advice.  He brings an experienced lawyer’s scrutiny to that work: checking the facts, testing the arguments, and taking responsibility for the finished product.  His objective is straightforward, put better tools to work for his clients.

Notable experience includes:

• First chair jury trial experience in a contract dispute that resulted in a verdict for the client well-below settlement value
• First chair bench trial experience to enforce contract provision that ended in verdict for the client exceeding $200,000
• Represents banking clients in data breach cases involving national merchants
• Advises business clients of all sizes about securing sensitive data and complying with federal privacy regulations.
• Litigates and advises business clients on all areas of Ohio's Workers' Compensation system
• Second chair bench trial experience in a misappropriation of trade secrets case valued at $7 million that resulted in a defense verdict for client and affirmed on appeal:  Torbeck v. Indus. Mfg. Co., 2015-Ohio-3041   
• Second chair bench trial experience in a family shareholder dispute
• Member of trial team that litigated and negotiated the ultimate sale of a limited liability corporation exceeding $90 million
• Second chair on trial team who represented a large community bank against lender liability claims with potential exposure in excess of $5 million
• Member of Product Liability trial team that successfully negotiated a favorable outcome for a client whose product was accused of causing the death of four individuals where liability exceeding $20 million
• Member of Trust and Estate trial team that successfully negotiated the resolution of a claim against a financial institution that could have exceeded $12 million
• Obtained summary judgment on behalf of a financial institution in excess of $25 million that involved over 30 lien claimants and lender liability claims
• Successfully obtained injunctive relief for client only one hour before a scheduled board meeting would have terminated the client’s veto rights in limited liability company
• Member of numerous toxic tort trial teams that have received favorable outcomes and obtained summary judgment for clients involving asbestos and flavoring cases throughout Ohio and Kentucky
• Successfully advocated in front of the full panel of the Ohio Industrial Commission on various motions for reconsideration
• Routinely presents CLE programs on the issues of AI in the law, information privacy and data security

J.B. also teaches information privacy and data protection law as an adjunct professor at Northern Kentucky University’s Salmon P. Chase College of Law.
