Ohio Hospital Association Annual Conference

Vorys Partners Jolie Havens, Elizabeth Smith and Lisa Pierce Reisz presented at the Ohio Hospital Association Annual Conference on June 5, 2018.  Havens and Smith’s presentation was entitled, Into the Weeds: Legal and Business Considerations for Hospitals in the Age of Medical Marijuana. This presentation discussed a variety of legal and business issues confronting Ohio hospitals relative to medical marijuana legalization. Attendees gained knowledge of issues unique to hospitals, including the impact of conflicting federal law, clinical and operational considerations, third-party payor issues, and academic research considerations. Reisz’s presentation was entitled Navigating HIPAA’s Right to Access: Compliance Challenges and Pitfalls for 2018. This program assisted providers to navigate the various regulatory schemes that govern patient access rights and to understand the various health information technology issues that can facilitate or hinder these access rights.
