2/2/2024 | USCIS Announces Registration Period for FY2025 H-1B Visa Lottery

On January 30, 2024, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that the initial registration period for the H-1B lottery process will open at noon ET on March 6, 2024 and will run through noon ET on March 22, 2024.  Read more.


1/23/2024 | California Supreme Court Limits Employers’ Defenses Against PAGA Claims

There has long been a split in appellate authority as to whether trial courts have the inherent authority to strike PAGA claims based on manageability. To consider this issue, the California Supreme Court granted review in Estrada v. Royalty Carpet Mills, Inc. There, the Court held that trial courts do not have the inherent authority to strike PAGA claims on manageability grounds, further limiting employers’ few defenses to PAGA claims.  Read more.

Webinar on Demand: Proactive Strategies to Address Unionization Attempts

The marked increase in unionization efforts nationally is obvious; but solutions that will address the cause, rather than the effects, of such unionization efforts are less clear. For decades, employees have turned to labor unions when they feel their company is not listening to their collective demands. Employees now have a renewed interest in communicating with labor unions to act on their behalf when they do not get what they want. For their part, unions are focusing organizational efforts on industries that have not traditionally been unionized.  In this session, Dan Clark and Michael Shoenfelt addressed the proactive measures companies can take now to address potential unionization.
