Overview

Asafu is a senior attorney in the Vorys Columbus office.  She is a member of the labor and employment group, specializing in the highly complex area of immigration, nationality and employer sanctions (I-9) law.

Asafu’s practice focuses on assisting business clients with visa sponsorship and immigration-related employment issues.  Her experience encompasses a broad range of temporary and permanent employment-based visa categories.  She also helps clients respond to government audits related to employment eligibility, verification and document retention requirements.

In addition to business clients, Asafu serves individual clients in areas of family-based immigration, naturalization and other immigration benefits.

Prior to joining Vorys, Asafu practiced family-based immigration and humanitarian-based immigration including asylum law.  She represented individuals in administrative proceedings with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Executive Office for Immigration Review.

Asafu is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).  Since February 2022, she has been acting as a Pro Bono Liaison for AILA’s Ohio Chapter.

Asafu received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where she was the senior notes editor of Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law.  She received her B.A. from Dartmouth College.

Asafu is a native Japanese speaker.
