Emergency Response/Well Incidents

Our extensive knowledge of the oil and gas exploration, production and the refining industry allows our emergency response team to address practically any industrial or business accident impacting our energy clients. Our experienced team is prepared, day and night, to respond quickly to a client’s call for help and to navigate them through the myriad of issues raised by accidents, releases, and other emergency situations in order to safely and efficiently return our client’s business to normal operation. We serve our clients in whatever capacity is needed, including providing advice and leadership, securing the scene and preserving evidence, handling the reporting to regulators, and on-site management of regulators, investigators and bystanders.

Our emergency response team includes lawyers who have taken industry courses in refining, refinery economics and well control, and a lawyer who obtained an International Association of Drilling Contractors certification for well control at the supervisor level. Our emergency response team also includes strategic communications professionals who assist our energy clients with media relations issues surrounding incidents, such as crisis communications, investigative reports and basic reporter inquiries.

Our work in this area includes the investigation and handling of significant matters arising from refinery fires, explosions and well control events at drilling locations. We assist our clients with conducting and managing accident response teams, OSHA investigations, release reporting, and litigation resulting from major energy accidents, whether it be a plant upset, explosion, blowout, derailment, pipeline rupture, or other type of catastrophic accident. We utilize a comprehensive approach to coordinating investigations, workers’ compensation claims, third-party litigation, and environmental regulatory response to major accidents.

In addition, we regularly assist clients to prepare for the unexpected. We often conduct pre-incident response training for personnel, develop action plans for emergencies, conduct audits and organize emergency response drills.
