Scrutton Named Vice-Chair of AHLA Behavioral Health Task Force

Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease is pleased to announce that Suzanne Scrutton, a partner in the Columbus office and a member of the health care group, has been named as a vice-chair of the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) Behavioral Health Task Force. The newly formed Task Force will advance the understanding of laws impacting behavioral health, including the delivery of services to those living with mental illness, certain neurological conditions, substance use disorders or developmental disabilities and reimbursement for such services.

Scrutton will serve as the vice-chair for publications.  In this role, she will work with other Task Force members and leadership within the AHLA to coordinate written communications, including publications, regulatory alerts and case law updates to members on issues related to behavioral health and developmental disabilities.

The Task Force will monitor and evaluate the complex framework of federal and state laws concerning privacy, information sharing and exchange, reimbursement, involuntary commitment, and other subjects related to the unique challenges facing health care providers and payors of behavioral health services.  In addition, the Task Force’s work will raise awareness about how behavioral health laws influence health improvement efforts.

In her practice, Scrutton represents trade associations and providers in the fields of long term care, behavioral health and developmental disabilities. She has extensive experience with health care regulatory issues, Medicaid reimbursement and regulations, as well as contract negotiations with various payor sources.  Scrutton has been a member of the AHLA for several years.
