Former Ohio Senate President Thomas E. Niehaus Joins Vorys Advisors

Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP announced today that former Ohio Senate President Thomas E. Niehaus (R) will join Vorys Advisors LLC.  Vorys Advisors is a wholly owned affiliate of the firm that provides business and strategic counsel to the law firm’s clients and other businesses and organizations. Niehaus will work in the firm’s Cincinnati office and maintain an office in Columbus.

“Throughout my careers in business and public service, I’ve made countless tough decisions. The decision to join Vorys Advisors was not one of them,” Niehaus said.  “I’m excited to join the Vorys teams, which are doing impactful work on behalf of clients who are strengthening our state.  The decision, for me, was one that I could make confidently because I know I’m joining a bipartisan team of people I respect and admire.  I’m eager to start the next chapter of my career as part of the Vorys family.”

Niehaus is the second former Ohio elected official to join Vorys or its subsidiaries this year.  Evelyn Lundberg Stratton, who served as an Ohio Supreme Court justice for 16 years, started as of counsel with Vorys in January.

Vorys Advisors is led by retired Congressman David L. Hobson (R-OH), and former Congressman Zack Space (D-OH) is a principal.

“Both in business and in the Statehouse, Tom has proven that he is a valuable asset for the state of Ohio,” Hobson said.  “He has a deep understanding of the state’s business and political landscapes.  Every client of Vorys Advisors and Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease will benefit from him joining our team.”

Niehaus was a state senator from 2005 to 2012 and served as president of the Ohio Senate from 2011 to 2012.  As a senator, Niehaus represented the 14th Senate District, including Adams, Brown, Clermont, Scioto and a portion of Lawrence County. A fiscal conservative, Niehaus has been named a “Watchdog of the Treasury” four times and has worked to keep taxes low and to make government more efficient. He earned praise from 100 Capitol Square Insiders as the “best listener” and ranked as one of the top ten “most effective” state legislators. He also served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2001 to 2004.

Before he began his career in public service, Niehaus was a respected newsman who spent 15 years working at Community Press, a network of community newspapers in Southwest Ohio.  Prior to his role with the newspapers, he worked for a marketing company for 10 years.

Niehaus earned his MBA from Xavier University and his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University.  He and his wife, Emily, live in New Richmond, Ohio.  They have three children and six grandchildren.
