According to LCLD, the Fellows Program is designed to produce a diverse generation of up-and-coming attorneys with strong leadership and relationship skills, who are committed to fostering diversity within their individual institutions and the legal profession. As a fellow, Garcia will participate in a year-long professional development program that focuses on relationship building and leadership skills.
Garcia joins a class of 134 attorneys from around the country who have been selected as LCLD fellows for 2012. He is one of three attorneys selected from Ohio and the only attorney selected from Columbus.
“Vorys has been a member of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity since its inception and we’re excited that Daren was selected to be a part of this distinguished class,” said Frederick Ransier, a partner in Vorys’ Columbus office and chair of the firm’s diversity committee. “A vital component of having the best talent is having diverse talent and Vorys believes it is necessary to employ, connect, retain and promote the best talent.”
Garcia is a member of Vorys’ litigation group. His trial practice focuses primarily on complex commercial and employment litigation. Garcia has successfully tried breach of contract, corporate governance and fiduciary duty, property conversion and consumer cases to final verdict in state and federal courts, as well as through arbitration. He also has substantial experience defending class action suits across the country involving securities laws, claims relating to prescription drug pricing, wage and hour laws, consumer laws and fraud claims. In addition, he has resolved numerous cases through injunctive relief, summary judgment or favorable settlement in the areas of franchisor/franchisee disputes, chemical exposures, misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair trade practices, premises liability and employment discrimination.
