Porter Admitted to the American College of Trial Lawyers

Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP is pleased to announce that William G. Porter, a partner in the firm’s Columbus office and chair of the firm’s litigation practice group, has been inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL).  The ACTL is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada and is widely considered to be the premier professional trial organization in America.

Porter joins eight current and retired Vorys partners as an ACTL fellow.  According to the ACTL, membership can never be more than one percent of the total lawyer population of any state or province and qualified lawyers are called to fellowship in the ACTL from all branches of trial practice.

“This is a much deserved honor for Bill,” said Russ Gertmenian, managing partner of the firm. “Bill has a broad and diverse trial practice. Through his hard work, he has most certainly earned his reputation as a prominent and distinguished trial lawyer.”

Porter practices general civil litigation with a focus on commercial and business disputes. He has represented financial institutions, manufacturers, franchisors, publicly and closely held corporations, universities, architectural and engineering design firms, and a variety of businesses and individuals in complex litigation, including class actions.

Porter is a frequent lecturer on attorney-client privilege issues, internal investigations, and trial advocacy issues, including presentations to the Ohio State Bar Association on “How to Handle the Obstreperous Lawyer in Depositions” and “Real Evidence for Trial Attorneys.”

Porter received his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. He received his B.A. cum laude from Amherst College.
