Zack Space, former member of Congress and a principal with Vorys Advisors LLC, has received the Broadband Hero Award from Connect Ohio.  Space received the award for his work with Connecting Appalachia, a group that is working to fill broadband coverage gaps in 34 rural Ohio counties with a 1,960-mile fiber-optic network.  An article in the December 10, 2011 edition of the Columbus Dispatch outlined the work being done.

The article, which was entitled “Group’s goal is Internet access in Appalachian Ohio,” states: “The absence of such technology makes a profound impact, said former U.S. Rep. Zack Space.  ‘Lack of adoption is both a cause and a product of poverty,’ Space said. ‘Broadband adoption affects everything — health care, business, security, education. This technology has the capability of serving as a bridge over the divide between poor, rural America and urban-suburban America. Someone has to build that bridge.”’
