Jill Tangeman, a partner in the Columbus office, was quoted in a Columbus Dispatch story about the City of Columbus’ zoning code.  According to the story, an assessment conducted by an outside consultant found the city’s code outdated, and reported that the city relies too much on rezonings and variances.

The story states:

“Jill Tangeman a local zoning lawyer with the Columbus law firm Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP, has represented multi-family residential developers along with commercial and industrial interests. She said Columbus' zoning code is too complex.

‘It’s a lengthy process to get through rezonings. It comes to a point at which you have to have land ready for development,’ Tangeman said.

A lot of the issues today concern spot zoning, which can lead to a lot of uncertainty in the process, she said. A business tied up in a long zoning process can end up heading somewhere else, she said.”
