Former Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Elizabeth Callan Joins Vorys
Vorys announced today that former Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Elizabeth Callan has joined as of counsel in the labor and employment group in the firm’s Cincinnati office. Before taking a seat on the bench, Callan spent more than a decade counseling employers on a wide variety of employment issues including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful discharge, FMLA claims, ADA claims and internal employer investigations.
“Libby is known as a fair voice and a strong advocate for her clients,” said Mark Knueve, chair of the Vorys labor and employment group. “Employers are currently facing a myriad of issues related to our current climate. Libby will be able to jump in and help these employers as they navigate the complex business environment.”
During her time on the court, Callan presided over a variety of business matters and matters in equity. In that role, she often served as a mediator in the cases before her—helping parties to find agreed resolutions to their disputes, prior to trial. Callan also served as an assistant prosecuting attorney early in her career successfully trying multiple felony matters.
“Libby joins a number of former judges who have chosen Vorys as their home after leaving the bench. That experience will strengthen the services we can provide to clients from our Cincinnati office,” said Nathaniel Lampley, the managing partner of the Cincinnati office. “In addition, Libby’s involvement community organizations throughout the Cincinnati region aligns with our core values of community service and service to the bar.”
Callan is a member of the Cincinnati Bar Association, serves on the Foundation Board at Lighthouse Youth Services and is a volunteer with Cincinnati Youth Collaborative Saturday Hoops program, the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati and the Ohio Pro Bono Partnership.

Callan received her J.D. cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law and her B.A. cum laude with honors from the University of Cincinnati. Callan also has experience as a mediator and has completed her mediation training with the Pepperdine Caruso Law Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution.
