Heller Named One of the 15 Top Paralegals in the Country

Nancy B. Heller, a litigation paralegal in the Columbus office of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP (Vorys), has been named one of the leading paralegal experts in America in the 2008 book “Lessons From the Top Paralegal Experts: The 15 Most Successful Paralegals in America and What You Can Learn From Them.”   Heller is the only paralegal in Ohio to be included in the book.

Heller has been a paralegal since 1978.  She works on a variety of complex class action litigation matters, including toxic tort, employment, products liability, and business and commercial cases.  She is a frequent speaker on a variety of topics relating to the paralegal profession such as ethics, paralegal utilization, regulation and paralegal education.  She also participates in a number of in-house training programs for Vorys paralegals and associate attorneys. Heller has been an adjunct professor in the Capital University Law School Paralegal Program since 1999 where she teaches Ethics and Law Office Practice and Civil Litigation II:  Trial Preparation and Practice.

“I am honored to be selected for this book, and I sincerely hope my experiences can help the next generation of paralegal talents succeed,” said Heller.  “The role of a paralegal is evolving, and it is a profession that is both interesting and rewarding for those who choose it.”

The book by Carole A. Bruno highlights success stories from the top 15 paralegal experts in the country who have helped expand the paralegal profession and improve the efficiency of performing paralegal duties, including creativity, leadership, expertise in their specialty, technical skills, knowledge, mentoring and organization.  These professionals share valuable insights and secrets that have helped them become the best of the best in their profession.

Nancy’s contributions to the Vorys firm during her 23 years of service have been extraordinary,” said Suzanne Richards, Vorys partner and head of the firm’s litigation practice group.  “Not only does she provide critical support to our litigation group, but she has an equally important role as a mentor to the firm’s paralegal staff of more than 60 paralegals in six offices.”

The criteria for the selection of the expert paralegals included individual achievements that contributed to expansion of the paralegal profession and improved the efficiency of performing paralegal duties.  The panel of professionals who selected the top paralegals for the book included:  William P. Statsky, paralegal educator and author; Therese Cannon, paralegal educator, author, dean of the John F. Kennedy School of Law, and member of the ABA Standing Committee on Paralegals; James Wilber, law office management consultant and principal of Altman Weil, Inc. (Milwaukee, Wis.); and Gary Melhuish, paralegal administrator, Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver, and Jacobson, LLP, Washington, D.C.
