Kloss Inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers
Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP is pleased to announce that William D. Kloss, Jr, a partner in the firm’s Columbus office and a member of the litigation group, has been inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL). Kloss joins nine current and retired Vorys partners as a fellow.
“It’s widely known that the American College of Trial Lawyers is composed of the best of the best litigators from the United States,” said Vorys’ Managing Partner Russ Gertmenian. “We’d like to congratulate Bill on this much deserved honor.”
Founded in 1950, fellowship in the ACTL is extended by invitation only, and only after careful investigation, to those experienced trial lawyers of diverse backgrounds who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality. Lawyers must have a minimum of fifteen years trial experience before they can be considered for fellowship.
“Bill is a talented, respected and tough trial lawyer who always does what is best for his clients,” said Bill Porter, chair of the Vorys litigation practice group and an ACTL fellow.
Membership in the College cannot exceed one percent of the total lawyer population of any state or province. There are currently approximately 5800 members in the United States and Canada, including active fellows, emeritus fellows, judicial fellows (those who ascended to the bench after their induction) and honorary fellows.
Kloss’ current practice focuses on complex commercial cases, products liability, franchise litigation, shareholder disputes, consumer protection and catastrophic personal injury, both defense and plaintiff. Kloss defends numerous drug manufacturers in litigation involving prescription drugs and alleged catastrophic injuries related to them. He has also briefed and argued numerous cases in Ohio Appellate Courts and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Kloss has spoken on general trial practice matters, including effective trial techniques, cross-examination of medical experts and the use of electronic demonstrative evidence in the courtroom.
Kloss received his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, where he was a member of the University of Cincinnati Law Review. He received his B.S. from Miami University in finance and accounting.
