Overview

Megan is an associate in the Vorys Columbus office and a member of the tax and probate group.  Her practice is focused on real property tax valuation and exemption disputes and appeals.  Megan has obtained substantial property tax valuation reductions and generated significant tax savings for taxpayers throughout the United States.  She has appeared before the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals and Ohio Supreme Court, along with numerous other state and local tax appeal boards across the country, achieving valuable results for a large variety of commercial properties, including grocery stores, restaurants and affordable housing projects.

Megan assists clients in analyzing, anticipating and mitigating the property tax consequences of proposed real estate transactions by preparing multi-year tax projections utilized in underwriting.  She also represents these clients with the resulting real property tax appeals.

Career highlights include:

  • Managing the portfolio of a regional affordable housing company and obtaining significant valuation reductions in several states, including Kentucky, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia
  • Achieving reinstatement of CAUV status for more than 200 acres of farmland in central Ohio, resulting in approximately $500,000 in annual tax savings
  • Successfully reducing the value of a senior housing complex in Missouri by nearly $1 million

Megan received her J.D. cum laude from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, where she was the senior articles editor for Human Rights Quarterly.  She received her B.A. cum laude from The Ohio State University, where she was an editor for the student newspaper, The Lantern.
