Our colleague, Brenda Bowers, passed away peacefully at her home after her battle with cancer on March 15, 2020. Brenda was a tireless worker and a very skilled practitioner in the bankruptcy, creditor rights, insolvency and receivership practice areas.
After graduating from Ohio Northern University in 1987, Brenda attended The Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law, receiving her JD in 1990. After law school, Brenda clerked for the Honorable Donald E. Calhoun, Jr. for the United States Bankruptcy Court, the Southern District of Ohio. In 2003, Brenda joined our firm and during her career at Vorys, she handled numerous bankruptcy, insolvency, foreclosure, and receivership matters for our firm’s clients.
Brenda was also a frequent lecturer on bankruptcy, insolvency, collection, foreclosure and receivership topics and she was an Adjunct Professor of Bankruptcy at Capital Law School in 2010. Brenda also served as counsel for Chapter 7 panel trustees on a regular basis and in 2018, she was appointed by the Office of the United States Trustee for Region 9 to the Bankruptcy Trustee Panel for the Southern District of Ohio, Eastern Division, which was a tremendous honor for Brenda and our firm.
Our thoughts are and will remain with Brenda’s spouse Susan and Brenda’s family and friends. It goes without saying that Brenda will be greatly missed by her Vorys colleagues and her friends throughout our community.
