J. Bret Treier
Mr. Treier is a partner in the Vorys Akron office and a member of the corporate and finance group. His practice focuses primarily on representation of public and significant private companies, which he regularly counsels on a broad range of matters involving corporate governance, securities law compliance and reporting issues, executive compensation and disclosure issues, public offerings of debt and equity securities, and merger and acquisition transactions. Mr. Treier is particularly experienced in representing public financial institutions.
Career highlights include:
- Serving as outside counsel in a variety of public company transactional and capital raising matters
- Serving as outside counsel in advising public companies and their boards of directors in regard to various governance and activist shareholder matters, including successful defense of proxy solicitations
- Negotiating and documenting significant private company purchase and sales transactions
Mr. Treier is a member of the American Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association and the Akron Bar Association.
Mr. Treier has lectured on various topics, including shareholder activism, corporate governance, and corporate ethical issues.
Mr. Treier received his J.D. cum laude from Case Western Reserve University School of Law where he was a member and Editor of the Case Western Reserve Law Review. He received his B.S. magna cum laude from Bowling Green State University.
Mr. Treier served as a federal judicial clerk for the Honorable Leroy J. Contie, Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
