Our firm represents more than 35 clients in connection with their defense of asbestos, silica, and benzene cases in Ohio.  Our lawyers have played a leading role with the courts and in the various defense groups established to litigate these cases.  For example, our attorneys led efforts to have more than 30,000 asbestos cases in Cuyahoga County, Ohio placed on an inactive docket, and worked to achieve the administrative dismissal of approximately 900 silica cases. 

Vorys lawyers also have taken a leading role in drafting and defending tort reform legislation in Ohio and throughout the country.  We assisted in drafting Ohio’s asbestos reform and silica reform legislation, and our lawyers testified at legislative hearings in support of those bills.  That legislation will result in the administrative dismissal of thousands of cases in which the plaintiffs have not been injured. Our firm now is leading efforts to protect and uphold these statutes in court.

In addition, our lawyers have been involved in advising clients regarding international regulation of chemical and toxic exposures and often work with clients to develop appropriate warnings for products so that future litigation can be avoided.
