Mary C. Henkel
Ms. Henkel is of counsel in the Vorys Cincinnati office and a member of the litigation group. Her practice focuses on trial and appellate litigation including representation of financial institutions, executives, and public and private corporations in class actions, defense of qui tam and False Claims Act litigation, defense of Truth-in-Lending and Consumer Sales Practices actions, ERISA and other employment-related litigation, and election law.
Ms. Henkel represents health care industry clients including medical equipment providers and an Institutional Review Board on a broad range of matters. She has represented financial industry clients in securities class actions and served on the defense team for one of the nation's top payment card processors in groundbreaking computer systems intrusion/data compromise cases.
Career highlights include:
- A long string of victories by summary judgment or motion to dismiss, vindicating clients as a matter of law without trial of the case
- Recent, successful jury trial experience
- Winning judgment, counterclaim damages and attorneys' fees for defendant in commercial litigation in the Southern District of New York
- Class actions involving shareholder, consumer, employee, and alleged pharmaceutical product liability matters
- Litigation of covenants against competition by ex-employees, representing both employers and employees
- Successful challenge and defense of candidates for judicial and other electoral office, and other election law matters
Ms. Henkel is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Cincinnati Bar Association.
Ms. Henkel has given presentations on covenants against competition by employees and trade secrets protection under Ohio law and on legal writing.
Ms. Henkel received her J.D. from Harvard Law School and her A.B. summa cum laude from Xavier University.
