2/8/12 Canter Quoted in Columbus Dispatch Story on $11.6 Million Jury Verdict

Michael J. Canter, a partner in the Vorys Columbus office, was quoted in a Columbus Dispatch article about an $11.6 million verdict awarded to Inland Products.  A Franklin County Common Pleas jury awarded damages to the company for a sewage backup that damaged both the business and its equipment.

The article, which appeared in the February 7, 2012 edition of the paper, states:

“Michael Canter, attorney for Inland Products, said the city was aware that some isolation gates in the sewer system weren’t working. He said the gates would have prevented the backup if they had been operational, regardless of the weather.

Canter said Inland’s owner, Gary Baas, tried to keep the plant open, but the business was so devastated by the damage that he sold it the next year. The plant was closed in 2010 and has since been torn down.

An expert witness for the company testified that the $11.6 million represented lost revenue and the loss in value at the time of sale.”
