Alexandra Schimmer Honored for Exceptional Pro Bono Service
11/20/07The law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP is pleased to announce that Alexandra Schimmer, an associate in the Vorys Columbus office, has been awarded the Columbus Bar Association and Columbus Bar Foundation's 2007 Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Service by an Individual.
For the past two years, Schimmer has provided extensive litigation support to the statewide Civil Gideon effort, which seeks to advance the right to counsel to indigent persons in adversarial proceedings where certain fundamental rights are at stake. The selection committee also cited her representation of a client referred by Southeastern Ohio Legal Services who did not have trial counsel in a parental rights termination proceeding and for whom Schimmer won a successful appeal that overturned the adverse decision.
"Alexandra's devotion of time to this representation and to the ongoing Civil Gideon effort shows an exceptional commitment to meeting the legal needs of many within our community who often face grave legal consequences, like the loss of a child, but are without the means to hire an attorney,” the committee said.
Schimmer is a member of the litigation group where she litigates in both trial and appellate courts. She represents major corporations, public institutions, and non-profits in federal and state cases involving commercial and contract disputes, data privacy and computer data breaches, federal and state constitutional issues, and securities law, among other issues.
She received her J.D. from the Yale Law School and her A.B. summa cum laude and Phi Betta Kappa from Princeton University. Schimmer is also a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Columbus Bar Association.
