Paul J. Coval
Mr. Coval is a partner in the Vorys Columbus office and a member of the health care group. His practice focuses significantly in the health care area and includes fraud and abuse compliance counseling, criminal, civil and administrative defense of fraud and abuse allegations, and administrative litigation before medical professional licensing boards. He also has considerable experience in the civil and criminal defense of state and federal environmental enforcement actions.
Career highlights include:
- Successfully representing pharmaceutical companies in multi-district and multi-state litigation over pricing practices
- Achieving acquittals in fraud and environmental criminal prosecutions and convincing federal and state prosecutors to terminate and close investigations or handle them in the civil or administrative arena
- Former chief of Ohio Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and chief prosecutor, Environmental Enforcement Section, Ohio Attorney General's Office
Mr. Coval is a member of the American Health Lawyers, the Ohio State Bar Association, Health Care Compliance Association, and the Columbus Bar Association.
Mr. Coval has made presentations on the topics of compliance, federal and state fraud and abuse, including investigative trends, inspections, and search warrants, and environmental enforcement.
Mr. Coval received his J.D. cum laude from the Capital University Law School where he was a member of the Order of the Curia. He received his B.A. magna cum laude from the Ohio Dominican College.
