About Cleveland
Cleveland, Ohio is one of the largest cities in the Midwest and one of the largest metropolitan areas in the nation. Located on the shores of Lake Erie, Cleveland is the headquarters of a number of large companies, boasts of some of the finest health care facilities in the nation, and features a wide range of top-flight museums, sports and entertainment venues, and cultural activities.
Many large corporations and financial institutions call Cleveland home, including First Energy, Eaton Corporation, National City Corporation, Key Corporation, and Sherwin-Williams. Other large employers include the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic and the growing University Hospitals medical system.
Cleveland is the birthplace of rock and roll and is a mecca for live music and entertainment. Countless venues in the Cleveland metropolitan area feature live performances by rock bands. The city is a destination for virtually every touring musical group and performer, and also is the site of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the nation.
Cleveland also offers a rich choice of other cultural activities, including Playhouse Square, the second largest theatre district in the nation, where five opulent theatres are located along a short stretch of Euclid Avenue. The Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Great Lakes Science Center are among many other attractions found in the downtown area.
Another focus of Cleveland life is the city’s professional sports teams, which are followed by rabid and devoted fans. The Cleveland Indians play in Jacobs Field, one of the finest ballparks built in recent years, and the Cleveland Browns attract legions of football fans to Cleveland Browns stadium, which is located on Lake Erie. The Cleveland Cavaliers are led by LeBron James, one the young superstars of the National Basketball Association. Cleveland also is home to the Cleveland Grand Prix.
