About Cincinnati

Cincinnati, Ohio, “The Queen City,” recently was ranked among the top 15 places to live and work by Fortune Magazine.  The City is located on the Ohio River, grew to prominence as a stop for settlers headed west by water, and is one of the oldest and most-well known cities in the American Midwest.  It has a population of more than 300,000 people, and the greater Cincinnati area, which includes parts of northern Kentucky and Indiana, has more than 2 million residents.

Many major corporations are headquartered in Cincinnati, including Procter & Gamble, The Kroger Company, Convergys, GE Aviation, Macys, Inc., Chiquita Brands International, Western & Southern Insurance Company, and Fifth Third Bank.  Cincinnati also is home to the University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, and a number of other colleges and educational institutions.

Downtown Cincinnati features Fountain Square, familiar to anyone who watched the television series WKRP in Cincinnati, and an above-ground walkway system that links most of the downtown shops and office buildings.  Cincinnati also is known for its collection of nineteenth-century architecture, much of which is found in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, one of the largest National Historic Districts in the nation.

Entertainment options in the city include the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Opera, the Cincinnati Ballet, and The Cincinnati Art Museum, which is one of the oldest and most well established in America. In addition, the city hosts numerous festivals and events during the year, including Oktoberfest, which is the second largest Oktoberfest celebration in the world, and the Cincinnati Jazz Festival.  Periodically, Cincinnati’s history as a river city is celebrated by a Tall Stacks festival, which features a collection of vintage riverboats.

In 1869, the Cincinnati Red Stockings became the first professional baseball team in America.  The Cincinnati Reds still play every summer at the Great American Ballpark, which is located on the riverfront, side-by-side with the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and Paul Brown Stadium, the home of the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League.  Another popular destination is the Newport Aquarium, located just across the Ohio River.
