Marcel C. Duhamel
Cleveland Office
Mr. Duhamel is a partner in the Vorys Cleveland office and a member of the litigation group. Much of his litigation practice focuses on the representation of banks and other lenders in litigation involving predatory lending and claims under federal and state statutes such as the Truth in Lending Act, the Home Ownership and Equity Protection Act, and Ohio's Consumer Sales Practices Act. He frequently represents parties in class actions and other forms of complex and multi-party litigation, involving issues such as consumer financial services, consumer protection, and other theories of lender liability. Mr. Duhamel has also represented clients in matters involving products liability, insurance and bankruptcy preference claims, intellectual property litigation, and general business litigation. He has substantial experience in appellate advocacy throughout Ohio.
Career highlights include:
- Arguing cases before a significant number of appellate courts throughout Ohio
- Defending and prosecuting class actions on issues ranging from predatory lending to consumer protection to claims under the Ohio consitution
- Representing national banks in various actions in state and federal courts
Mr. Duhamel is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Cleveland Bar Association and the Conference on Consumer Finance Law.
Mr. Duhamel has spoken on topics relating to trial advocacy, current lending compliance issues and legal writing.
Mr. Duhamel received his J.D. from The University of Chicago Law School and his B.A. summa cum laude from Case Western Reserve University.
Mr. Duhamel clerked for The Honorable Ann Aldrich of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
