Michael R. Thomas
Columbus Office
Mr. Thomas is of counsel in the Vorys Columbus office and a member of the litigation practice. He specializes in appellate advocacy and the handling of appeals in all areas of law, from tax and environmental to telecommunications and constitutional issues. Mr. Thomas has litigated appeals at all levels of state and federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court.
Career highlights include:
- Authoring many appellate briefs in significant Ohio Supreme Court cases that resulted in the change of Ohio law with respect to, inter alia, the ability of banks to sell insurance, the Governor’s authority to veto bills filed by the predecessor in office, the measure of damages for delays in large construction contracts, and the law governing voluntary dismissals, voidable contracts, and failure to timely prosecute civil cases
Mr. Thomas is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association.
Mr. Thomas has presented seminars on product liability law, tort reform and legal theory. He has also taught law school and graduate school seminars in civil rights law, product liability, criminal law, and legal writing.
Mr. Thomas received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. He received his M.A. with high honors from The Ohio State University and his B.A. with high honors from the University of Michigan.
