Brett G. Kappel

Mr. Kappel is of counsel in the Vorys Washington, D.C. office and a member of the corporate and finance group.  He advises corporations and trade associations on the formation of public policy on the federal level and counsels clients on compliance with federal, state, and local campaign finance, lobbying, and ethics laws and regulations.

Career highlights include:

  • Representing clients in Federal Election Commission enforcement proceedings for nearly 20 years and obtaining the dismissal of charges against his clients without the payment of any fine in all but one case

Mr. Kappel is a member of the American Bar Association, the Virginia State Bar, and the District of Columbia Bar. Mr. Kappel is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and the State of Virginia.

Mr. Kappel has made presentations on federal and state campaign finance law and congressional ethics.

Mr. Kappel received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was a Dillard Fellow and the Notes Editor for the Journal of Law & Politics.  He received his B.A. summa cum laude from the State University of New York at Albany, where he was a member of the Signum Laudis University Honor Society and Phi Alpha Theta, the National History Honor Society.
