John L. Landolfi
Columbus Office
Mr. Landolfi is a partner in the Vorys Columbus office and a member of the litigation group. He practices in the area of commercial and business litigation, with an emphasis in general retail, consumer protection, advertising, labeling, trade secret, intellectual property, and large class action matters. Mr. Landolfi specializes in counseling and defending retailers, manufacturers and distributors throughout the nation, on matters before state attorneys’ general and local consumer protection agencies involving unfair and deceptive trade practices, anti-counterfeiting, advertising, labeling, marketing, sweepstakes and promotions, consumer credit, and product recalls. He also defends clients in complex commercial litigation in federal and state courts, arbitrations and mediations, and has considerable court room and trial experience in both federal and state courts.
Career highlights include:
- Defending national retailers in putative class actions brought in courts throughout the nation arising from wage and hour claims and involving consumer protection matters
- Representing national retail clients in anti-counterfeiting cases throughout the nation
- Obtaining a preliminary injunction on behalf of a national clothing retail client in a trademark counterfeiting action
- Advising retail clients on national advertising campaigns and promotions
- Defending a large automobile dealership in a putative state class action involving truth in lending, retail installment sales, fair credit reporting and various state law claims
- Representing a national retail chain in investigations by the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs into alleged deceptive return and exchange practices
- Representing a national retail chain in claim brought by the Ohio Attorney General arising from claims of fraud, deceptive practice, and violations of various state laws
- Representing a national retail chain in a breach of lease claim resulting from damage caused by Hurricane Katrina
Mr. Landolfi is a member of the American Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association and the Columbus Bar Association.
Mr. Landolfi is a frequent speaker on various retail topics, including general advertising, promotions, sweepstakes, trade secrets and e-discovery.
Mr. Landolfi received his J.D. with honors from The Ohio State University College of Law where he was a member of the Order of the Barristers and Omicron Delta Kappa. He received his B.A. magna cum laude from Westminster College where he was a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon.
