Robert C. Mitchell

Columbus Office

Mr. Mitchell is a partner in the Vorys Columbus office and a member of the litigation group.  His practice focuses on product liability defense.  Mr. Mitchell has extensive experience in the management of toxic tort litigation on a national basis for a Fortune 100 client and he also handles insurance coverage litigation on behalf of policyholders.

Career highlights include:

  • Participating in over 20 jury trials 
  • Recovery of over $2 billion in policy proceeds in insurance coverage litigation for policyholders

Mr. Mitchell is a member of the American Bar Association.  He is also a member of the Defense Research Institute, the American Chemistry Council Tort Litigation Group, the American Corporate Counsel Association, and the Ohio Alliance for Civil Justice and its Litigation Task Force.

Mr. Mitchell has given presentations on joint defense agreements in toxic tort and environmental litigation for the Defense Research Institute, as well as professional ethics in the representation of multiple parties in mass and serial litigation.

Mr. Mitchell received his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law and his B.A. from Denison University.

Before joining Vorys, while at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and at Owens Corning Corporation, Mr. Mitchell supervised the defense of several hundred thousand asbestos lawsuits, as well as being responsible for the negotiation and settlement of insurance coverage for asbestos and chemical exposure claims involving over $1 billion in limits.
