Matthew D. Besser

Cleveland Office

Mr. Besser is an associate in the Vorys Cleveland office and a member of the labor and employment group.  His practice focuses on labor and employment, litigation and appellate law.

His notable experience includes:

  • Briefing and arguing before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit on behalf of an indigent client appealing from the denial of habeas corpus relief, obtaining a reversal and remand for an evidentiary hearing
  • Defending both large and small corporate employers in numerous employment discrimination and other employment-related claims in federal and state courts
  • Briefing numerous appeals before the Ohio and federal courts of appeal

Mr. Besser is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, the Cleveland Employment American Inn of Court and is a founding member of the American Constitution Society, Northeast Ohio Chapter. Mr. Besser is also an appointed member of the 2008 Democratic National Convention Standing Platform Committee.

Mr. Besser graduated from The Ohio State University, Michael E. Moritz College of Law summa cum laude where he received the Order of The Coif, the Donald S. Teller Memorial Award, and the Judge Joseph H. Harter Memorial Award.  He received his B.A. from The George Washington University.

Mr. Besser clerked for the Honorable Richard L. Nygaard on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit from 2004 to 2005.
