D. Scott Powell

Columbus Office

Mr. Powell is a partner in the Vorys Columbus office and a member of the tax group.  He practices in the area of federal taxation, including tax planning, municipal finance, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, partnerships, limited liability companies, joint ventures, venture capital transactions, litigation settlements, fringe benefits, charitable contributions, and cross-border and international transactions.  He also has experience with the regulatory aspects of the operation, purchase, and sale of corporate aircraft.

Career highlights include:

  • Handling one-billion dollar financing transaction
  • Working on numerous taxable and tax free acquisitions and divestitures
  • Structuring numerous municipal bond transactions

Mr. Powell is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, the American Bar Association, and the Columbus Bar Association.

Mr. Powell has lectured on the topics of mergers, acquisitions, divestures, employee fringe benefits, taxation of litigation settlements, and wage and payroll reporting.

Mr. Powell received his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law where he was the Articles Editor of the Northwestern University Journal of International Law and Business. He received his B.A. summa cum laude with distinction from The Ohio State University where he was Phi Beta Kappa.
