George Corey Scholarship
In 2005, the Ohio legal community said goodbye to one of its most beloved members, George Corey. George was an extremely talented attorney who was respected and admired by his colleagues and clients alike for his legal ability, civic involvement, and dedication to recruiting the "best and brightest" for the Vorys firm from diverse cultures, backgrounds and experiences. In George’s honor and to continue his legacy, Vorys has established a scholarship of $10,000 for law students of color whose spirit, drive and commitment leads them to pursue a career in the legal profession and who have demonstrated leadership in improving the quality of life in their communities and/or schools.
Eligibility and Award
To be eligible, applicants must be second-year law students of color. In order to receive the scholarship, an applicant must be offered and must accept a position of summer employment at one of Vorys’ offices in Ohio. The $10,000 scholarship will be distributed at the conclusion of the scholarship recipient’s summer employment. The requisite ancestry for applicants includes African-American, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander and/or Hispanic.
Application Process
Applications should be completed and submitted by July 15, 2010. Decisions regarding the scholarship will be made in the Fall of 2010. Students may submit their applications by mail or email (PDF):

Please provide a transcript, resume, writing sample and a personal statement of 300 words or less describing your interest in the practice of law and your current/past leadership roles in benefitting your school and/or community. Also, please indicate in your cover letter whether you have signed up for, or intend to sign up for, an on-campus interview with Vorys (an on-campus interview is not required to be eligible for this scholarship).

George Corey’s professionalism, warmth, and concern for others have left an indelible mark on his community – his family, friends, colleagues, neighbors and fellow citizens. As a Vorys’ “ambassador” for thirty years, George attracted lawyers to the firm with his extraordinary people skills and boundless energy for the practice of law. As a person, he will be best remembered for his kindness, his generosity and his exuberant spirit.
